Arrivals to the farm

Whether you’re coming the farm to check into your accommodation, check out our plant nursery, or visit our restaurant from Moyogalpa or San Jose without our driver then follow the directions below. If you think it would be a fun drive but aren’t coming to the island with a vehicle then check out the options for renting.

PORT TO SELVISTA SUPER SIMPLE DIRECTIONS:

Turn right on main road leaving the port towards Altagracia

Turn right @ El Quino ( pronounced ‘el key-no’) to Santa Domingo

Turn left @ Santa Cruz to Balgue

Turn right our driveway. It has wooden signs to the right of the road, between Finca Magdalena and Finca Ometepe.

Don’t turn up to Finca Magdalena or Finca Ometepe, we’re in the middle, just after the bridge.

PORT TO SELVISTA DETAILED DIRECTIONS:

From Moyogalpa port leave up hill, turn right, left then right again.

Drive for 25 minutes until you reach the El Quino crossroad.

Take a right there towards Santa Cruz.

At the next crossroads make a left to Balgüe.

Once you’ve passed through the center of Balgüe you’ll see the lake just to the left of the road and then cross Balgüe bridge.

The farm entrance is signposted Selvista, Bona Fide, La Bambouseraie and Zapote. If you see Finca Campestre or Finca Ometepe you’re gone a touch too far.

Maderas Wood Cabins are on the left just 50 meters after going over ‘Puente Balgüe’. All other accommodations are located within the farm, 50 meters on the right after the wood cabins.

4x4s make for a more comfortable ride on the island but are not necessary to get to us. We have a lower parking area for smaller vehicles, low cars, and inexperienced drivers (especially those on scooters or motorbikes) that can’t or shouldn’t make it all the way up to the top parking area. Motorbikes are fine if you’re experienced in rocky roads

Your accommodation:

If you’re staying in the 2 bed-room apartments then Family Villas, it’s is signposted at the top of the first straight of our driveway on the left of the ‘small parking’ area, before the road curves right.

From the lower parking area Malinche Cabin and Pitanga Cabin are next, on the right at the cross roads. You can park quads between the cabins.

You can find La Palmera on the right between the turn and the higher parking, across from our workshop. You can drive past Pitanga and Malinche if you have a quad to park outside of your cabin.

Mango House and Jackfruit House can both be found to the right of the last parking area.

For Jungle House, both the Volvano View and Forest View accommodations are on the path to the left, or can also be reached following the path on the right going uphill and then left from the communal kitchen below the restaurant.

Follow the path up to reception to find Casa Chilamate and Farmhouse cabins.

COMMON MISTAKES:

DON’T turn up either road to Finca Magdalena. We’re not there! You’ll have to come back down, (the road is rocky and only fit for 4x4s) cross the bridge, and turn at our driveway.

Once you get to the town of Balgüe KEEP GOING, cross the bridge (signposted Puente Balgüe) at the east side of Balgüe and we’re the first driveway, on the right, up the hill from there. The entry is lit at night. Don’t head up the road to Magdalena, which isin front of the health center (centro de salud) in the center of Balgüe. We are 1km past the Magdalena turn off, the turn off surrounded by forest not buildings.

 Please park to the right in the lower parking area if you have a small car. Do not attempt to pass the final part of our rocky driveway in a low car or on two wheels if you’re an inexperienced off-road driver. 4x4 and quads are great up there. Motorbikes are fine if you’re confident to do so. Scooters arent ideal on the last stretch.

***NOTE: google maps does not recognise our driveway and as such will direct you up the nearest roads, signposted to Finca Magdalena or Finca Ometepe. Do not follow these roads please. Continue on through Balgüe and follow the signs to Selvista and Bona Fide as directed above. First right after Balgüe Bridge***
